This is only the beginning . . . keep
checking LOTC
(pronounced LOT-C).

Ok, so here's where the
information starts:
We try to avoid "FREEBIES"
as that word connotates "VALUELESS" or "having little or
no value". The old saying "You get what you pay for" is
so true. Don't waste your time searching freebie things. We
discovered there's usually a catch to it or it's just
plain 'worthless' in the long run. But, adopting a
frugal mindset and spending wisely will keep us all comfortable.
"Tough
Times Don't Last, But Tough People Do"
Here are
some helpful suggestions as a starting guide . . .
1. Put
yourself on a budget. Determine what you can afford to spend on
certain categories and then stick to the budget. Mortgage and
rent comes first. Get behind on the big
stuff, and we'll be in financial trouble real fast. Energy bills can
become more efficient with minor
adjustments. Food can be healthy and
affordable, not just cheap fast food. Clothing is a 'piece of cake'.
Food, clothing, shelter . . . those are the
basics of living. Now let's give those items
quality and value!
Put your household budget into
effect in less time than the total
commercials added together in the next TV
program you watch. The software is called
"Money Tree". Watch the video and see how
you can benefit.
Here is an inexpensive budgeting software package
you can download and set up in 20 minutes.
Another
budgeting tool is ironically called the
"20-Minute Budget". It's a very
affordable worksheet but by a different
company. Download it and get busy. For
$14.99, it's a steal and something you can't
do without - if you WANT to save money.
Often cheap tools reap great rewards. |
2. Write
down everything you spend money on.
Don't overlook anything, even a candy
bar! Keep an inexpensive day-timer with you
at all times. Pocket-sized planners
are available at grocery checkout counters
or the Dollar Tree stores. Give one to every
member of the family. You'll be surprised
where your money goes. Get an account of
how you're spending, then adjust it so
you don't have to spend your money on cheap
products, but rather wisely spend money on
quality products. |
3. Change
your habits. Easily said . . . easily done
with some facts about living-on-the-cheap.
Ask yourself, "Do I really need this?" Peace
of mind is worth more than all other
'things'. Yet, great nice things are
still available to you at very affordable
prices.
If you need
help changing bad habits to good ones, we
recommend an effective e-book called "The
Power of Positive Habits". It's endorsed
by Jack Canfield (author of Chicken Soup
for the Soul and other "Chicken Soup"
series books). The "Power of Positive
Habits" also includes audio (digital CDs)
and comes with multiple bonuses when you
order. Read more about it
here. |
4.
Eliminate a car payment.
We threw this section in here for the fun of
it, never knowing this FREE CAR program
existed. You have to pay for gas and
insurance, but there are actually companies
that let you drive a new car for free. It
involves advertising, but what the heck! No
car payments. Certainly a bargain for those
people who are living on the cheap side of
life.
Check it out here.

Conserve Money
AND Earn More Money? |
Conservation. Conserving
one's money means tightening up on spending and/or figuring
out how to save money that you would ordinarily spend
elsewhere.
|
Add
more insulation to your attic. |
|
Weatherstrip around doors and windows.
|
|
Sleep under heavier covers and turn the heat
down at night. |
|
Wear more layers around the house during the
winter months. |
|
Tint your windows for refracting summer sun. |
|
Make soup out of your leftover food. (add
continuously to a freezer container) |
|
Turn out
lights when you leave a room. |
|
Eat before
going to the grocery store. Then take a list and
stick to it. |
|
Buy generic items. |
|
Carpool or use
public transportation. |
|
Extra Income. Instead of
learning how to skimp and save, consider earning extra
income from home, in the evening, after your regular job, if
that job isn't enough to live on comfortably or if you
desire extra money just to buy some finer things.
One thing we
found to be very popular online is taking surveys for
companies.
In order for large companies to get feedback
on their products they ask consumers for their opinions.
Hundreds of companies participate in online survey taking
and PAY for it. Being able to follow directions is a
prerequisite. Here are just a few places to sign up (small
fee required to eliminate the dead-beats):
How
Cheap is Cheap?
We don't want to live so
cheap that we require a make-shift cabin in the woods
and clothes made from tree leaves. Frugal living can be
taken to extremes. When that happens we become miserable
individuals and a miserable society at large.
Spending
wisely is the way to go. Spending wisely is the key to
happiness and security. We all have known at least one
compulsive penny-pincher. The one I particularly
remember became a bitter old man, thinking everyone but
him had a good and happy life. I wonder if his
penny-pinching ways effected his mind-set to accepting a
life of lack and limitation.
According
to an economic research company, the fourth quarter of
2008 showed Missouri as being the cheapest place in the
United States for living expenses. Following the
mid-west section of the country, the Southern states
were also shown as having a lower cost of living. The
highest cost of living was indicated as being New
England, Alaska, Hawaii, and the west coast (California,
etc.). (FYI)
